Who isn’t addressing the issues?

The frontpage of Yahoo! earlier this afternoon had this headline, Why have the candidates made no mention of the financial crisis?, which lead to this article. Huh? Did I read that right? It should read, Why have McCain and Obama made no mention of the financial crisis?, because Bob Barr is certainly addressing the issues facing our nation, while McCain and Obama carry on with their coronations.

Wait, it gets better:

The U.S. is facing the worst financial crisis since the Depression. You would never know that from the Democrats’ platform in Denver or its Republican counterpart, or from listening to Barack Obama or John McCain.

While both candidates have bemoaned the ravages of the subprime crisis, they have yet to spell out steps for tackling it, such as using taxpayer money to shore up banks and housing.
[...]
The Democrats’ platform, adopted at their Denver convention this week, labels the crisis a “debacle” and promises to jump-start the economy with a $50 billion stimulus package. It says nothing about helping banks or bailing out the mortgage-finance firms Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The draft of the Republicans’ plank, to be adopted next week at their convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, supports “timely and carefully targeted aid to those hurt by the housing crisis” and opposes bailouts of private financial institutions. It doesn’t mention Fannie and Freddie.

Bob Barr has talked in-depth about the financial crisis facing our country, and not just the current crisis, but the looming crisis that has presented itself in the form of economy crippling entitlements that have long ignored by Republicans and Democrats.

Unlike Democrats, Bob opposes a bailout of financial institutions and blasted the housing package passed by Congress and signed by President Bush. He wants to privatize Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. He is the only candidate addressing regulation as the reason we are losing jobs. In fact, Bob Barr is the only presidential candidates to release a position paper on Social Security that completely takes a tax increase off the table.

A candidate is addressing these issues, which is the reason why it is so important to get Bob Barr in the debates. McCain and Obama will either not address these issues or continue to increase government intervention only to make things worse.

A Little Late Aren’t We?

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Section 192.031 of the Texas election code says that political parties must certify their presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the November ballot no later than 70 days before the general election. It says, “A political party is entitled to have the names of its nominees for president and vice-president placed on the ballot if before 5 p.m. of the 70th day before presidential election day, the party’s state chair signs and delivers to the secretary of state a written certification of the name’s of the party’s nominees for president and vice-president.”

At 2:30 pm Texas time, August 27, Kim Kizer of the Texas Secretary of State’s elections division says neither major party’s certification has been received in the Elections Division. The Executive Office of the Secretary of State refers all questions back to the Elections Division.

Something tells me that we will be seeing both Obama and McCain on the ticket anyways.

Why vote in another disappointment?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

As most people will agree, both McCain and Obama are poor choices in this year’s presidential election. Neither seem to be the right person for the job. It’s basically the sheep voting on which wolf they want to run the country next.

Why not try something new instead?

Up until a few weeks ago, I was a Republican. I felt the need to leave the party because they no longer maintain their true values. I couldn’t join the Democrats, they’re just as bad. I’d be going from supporting expanding government in the name of defense to supporting expanding government in the name of a better society. Either way my rights are being infringed upon.

I have known of the Libertarian party for quite a while, and have had people tell me that my views coincide with the party’s principles. I had always been reluctant of leaving behind the mainstream to join something that I felt could make little difference. I wanted to change the Republican party for the better and promote the true beliefs of what the party originally stood for. I’ve now realized that will not be possible, not in our current society.

We need a better choice, and for me that better choice is the Libertarian party, which I have recently joined. I will still vote with an independent mind as I always have. My current congress representative is Democrat Chet Edwards and I have supported him for as long as I can remember, so its not entirely about party, it is about who has the best plans and ideas.

I won’t stand here and tell you all the good and bad things about each party, that is for you to decide on your own. However I would recommend checking into the Libertarian party, you might find something you like.

I support Bob Barr for president in 08. http://www.BobBarr2008.com
