The Age of Benevolence
Author: StephenThis is an essay that I wrote for a scholarship I am attempting to win. The subject was, Describe a perfect world.
Author: Stephen Carter
Many people have their own vision of a perfect world, and many would believe that such a world in some way would greatly enhance their own lives, with less regard being made to others. However, this sort of world would not be a perfect world due to the various forms of liberty restrictions that individuals with power would choose to place on others, as they would believe it is in someone’s best interest to force something upon them for the sake of society. In a perfect world, society would be structured in such a way that grants every individual the freedom to do as they wish, so long as their actions cause no harm to others.
A perfect world would have a rich, vibrant economy that is able to provide everyone with a means to support themselves, no one would be unemployed or in poverty except by choice. People would never be bound by social or economic status in achieving their maximum potential. Education would be freely shared amongst everyone in an effort to advance society as a whole. Technology would be advanced enough to have cures to all illnesses that plague the world, with artificial organs and limbs available for the sick and disabled. All health care would be easily affordable and attained by everyone, and patients wouldn’t pay exorbitant prices to find out if they have a life threatening disease.
War would be non-existent, and conflict all over the world would cease to exist. There would be no deaths caused from fighting over land, or from cultural or religious differences. People would be able to live amongst one another peacefully, respectful of one another’s beliefs, never forcing others to live life according to someone else’s plan. A world without violence would be the ultimate achievement for our civilization.
In a perfect world, everything that is used or consumed would be created from safe, non-polluting, renewable or reusable resources. A tree would never be commercially logged again while fossil fuels would not have to be mined and burned as fuel. Oil spills, hazardous chemicals dumped into rivers and lakes, air pollutants from businesses and vehicles, and other environmental disasters and forms of pollution that damage our planet would be largely minimized through technological advancements and genuine concern for our world. Animals would die out based upon natural selection, rather than by the actions of society. Humans may be the dominant species on the planet, but we must have respect for all life.
A perfect world can never be achieved due to the inherent greed of the human nature; however, as time passes, it is with great hope that society can move towards such a perfect world through acceptance of others, knowledge, and understanding. We are by no means a perfect race, but we do have the capacity to achieve a version of this perfect world. It takes only a combined effort from everyone in order to be possible. People must be willing to help themselves and others, and keep an open mind towards the wonders the world and others have to offer.
