Instead of figuring out ways to reduce the cost of doing business, we’re going mandate that you buy health insurance, because we’re not interested in real reform. Instead of trying to cut out and limit the greedy middle man, we’re going to empower him, because we’re not interested in real reform.

We’re going to shove one big gigantic package through as fast as we can, not because we’re not interested in real reform, but because we’re scared that the political might to do so will be lost. It doesn’t really matter how bad the package is, and we’ll ignore the fact that we know we’re just slapping a few more big band-aids on the problem. All that matters is that we did something, and in the process, we forced a lot of people to do something because we thought it would be good for them. We won’t even consider looking into making incremental changes, or looking at regulation.

I’m 22 years old, and I see what’s going on around me. While the Democrats and Republicans play with and waste my money on every aspect of the government and special interests, they neglect our health and education standards. While they pile my future tax debts higher and higher, making my future cost of living skyrocket, they now want to make my current cost of living skyrocket by forcing me to buy health insurance, right at a critical part of my life where my money goes towards school and trying to survive.

I pay my medical bills, all of them. When a problem arises and I need to go to the doctor, I find a way to raise the money I need. I do just fine without insurance, and that’s good because I can’t afford it, no matter how low they dream of making the costs. I say the word dream, because in reality it will be likely that our costs will not be decreased much, only a bit because they’re just forcing more people to pool their money into the system.

I ask you, what gives the government the right to force me to buy health insurance? I can answer it for you, there is no right.

There will be a fine and you could go to jail for not buying health insurance. Will you pay it for refusing to buy health insurance? I surely will not. I will buy insurance when I choose, when I am able to.

Did anyone ever stop to consider that maybe insurance companies could be a large part of the reason why our health care cost so much? Anyone ever think that limiting frivolous lawsuits and curbing outrageous lawsuit awards would be an idea worth pursuing?
